Michael Kowski

President & CEO at McKinney Economic Development Corp

Michael Kowski currently serves as the President & CEO of the McKinney Economic Development Corporation. He has held this position since October of 2023.

Michael began his career in the City of McKinney as Director of Parks and Recreation in 2017, where he was part of a team of over 600 professionals that managed and activated an award-winning, 3,000-acre parks system in one of the fastest-growing communities in the nation.

He previously served as the Assistant Director of Development Services in a Chicago suburb, where he played an active role in engineering, project management, planning, and economic development activities. He also served as a voting member on the regional Land Use Committee for the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.

Michael is a credentialed city planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), a Certified Urban Designer (CUD), and a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP). He holds master’s degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago (College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts) and Harvard University (Extension School), where he completed advanced studies in architecture, urban planning, economic development, environmental science, and art history.
